DotSauce Magazine: Poll: Domain Parking Revenue Predictions

  • WQ · 1 year ago
PPC has been about the same here over the last couple of years. No problems.

PPC in some form will be around as long as the internet exists. It's not going away.

There is not much growth in PPC if you are not adding new traffic but you can count on receiving a monthly check month after month with almost zero work.

Like many domainers I own too many to consider development - for even a small percentage of my sites. I have tried many parking companies with very mixed results. The tweaking alone was taking too much of my time.

I have moved all of my sites to www.domainembarking.com which offers a full blown 8 page deep site, with news, videos, blogs, shopping, content, RSS feeds, games etc.. for the price of a burger and fries.

I also get an average of .20 cents a click on my ads, which is better than any other parking company that I have used. Most importantly, my sites are getting page ranked by Google! I have never seen that with a parked site.

They can also set up a network for sites that have a theme. I own some 3D domains that they are working on networking for me. They are tweaking some odds and ends right now but you can get an idea what it is going to look like. It beats a parked page by a mile.

I still find parking domains an utterly lazy way to handle your assets. In case you haven't been reading the forums, companies that offer "web 2.0 parking" are getting their customers' domains blacklisted by Google faster than you can shake a stick. (Remember the evil duplicate content? - Google is hitting domain holder hard who park on some of these sites.)

Also, why get excited at making .20 a click when you can put up your own links in about the same time and garner $20 to $100 per CPA.

    Oh well...

I have a domain parking account with Sedo, that I use for the domains that I'm not currently doing anything with.

I get enough revenue to cover the cost of the domains. About $10 per year, per domain.

I believe domain parking can only last so long before it just isn't a viable option anymore. In the end, I believe the most money can be made by developing actual websites on those parked domains.

The reason why this isn't happening yet is because so many top tier domain names are owned by a small group of people and see no need to work any harder when they're already making a lot of money.

As an outsider to this industry, I do have to say, I would think that setting up a blog and providing even one exceptionally useful post to the web community would probably yield more benefit to users and more passive profit to the blog owner than anything else.

I think parking should only be used as a last ditch effort of a domain you can't squeeze anything out of, or simply don't have the time for. Like Adam said, you can at the very least get your investment back.
